I am on my third Opal in 7 months. First one started making squealing noises the stopped making ice within a month, but it was given as a Christmas present so the purchase date was more than a month, I was sent a "refurbished" unit. Missing screws, others not screwed in, it never was able to make ice. It was returned and another brand new one purchased, after a couple months it is squealing and stops making ice frequently. It goes into cleaning required mode hours after the last cleaning. Very frustrating to have three of these in 7 months because each stopped making ice. Looking to switch to another brand now, I am tired of messing with it.

My family did enjoy the ice, however, it was short-lived and now I join all the reviews with 1 or 2 stars. Terrible customer service, sounds like a pump issue, always spins that it needs water, if you are short on time and patience this product probably not worth it, I'm getting there fast.

The unit it very difficult to clean. The water reservoir is not removable, so you must empty the water out before cleaning it. It's just kind of a pain. The machine takes a long time to make ice and ice noisy. Would not buy again.

Poor customer service and nothing but problems goi g through service department to get fixed. Worked less than 3 months then took 2 months to get refurbished replacement. No 2 months later refurbished one is making same noise. Bad motors.

I have the opal maker and it was running great until all of a sudden the pump stopped working. The light says it needs water, but it has a full tank. Tried to call customer service, waited over an hour for a call back and was emailed instructions on how to get the "pump to work". I've spent all day trying to get it to work and nothing. I replied to the email and haven't heard anything. If the pump goes out in a few years it's not worth the money.

Our first Opal nugget machine worked great for the first 3-4 months. Shortly thereafter it would mysteriously stop making ice from time time, and by the 8th month it didn't work more than it did so we stopped using it altogether. Our replacement unit was delivered before the warranty expired, and we have only had it for a month and are in the same situation. We LOVE nugget ice, but this machine is was too expensive to be so fragile/poorly designed

First one was purchased and lasted approximately 4 years before it quit working, this was before the company was bought out by GE. Since then, with the warranty, we have received 4 additional ones and each one has quit working within a couple of weeks. There has been very little communication and it takes approximately 6 weeks to receive a replacement unit.

We received this ice maker Christmas 2020 and in October the unit quit making ice. We contacted the company and after many conversations the company sent a refurbished unit which we installed today (12/15/2021). We were very pleased with the original unit for those 10 months.

Our favorite "to-go" ice at home!! This is perfect for parties and every day use. We love the nugget ice and it is so easy with this ice machine. The directions were clear and it was very quick and easy to set up. When we have a party it does great at keeping up with all the drinks and people are so excited to have the "fancy ice". Its also perfect for filling a champagne bucket. It looks beautiful on our bar counter and we get lots of compliments on it!

This is such an awesome ice machine. Somewhere between consumer grade and professional. I have mine on a raised table. I have to hold the ice tray when I pull it out so I doesn't fall out completely. Minor complaint. I wish they put a notch that holds it in place when you pull it out. Filling it with a large pitcher is a tad cumbersome because it holds so much water. You have to turn the pitcher almost 90 degrees to completely empty the pitcher into the shallow bottom of the machine. It's fairly silent compared to ice machines I've used. Probably because the nuggets are so small. Mine arrived with a small dent on the front. I didn't email them to complain for a replacement. It's noticeable only in some angles.

Set up is easy and although it had a slight learning curve it was up and running quickly. The medium size nuggets are great for your drinks or alone. You have to give it some time, at first I thought it wasn't working correct because the first bits weren't really formed nuggets and they seemed to melt a bit. Soon enough it was half full of perfect crunchy ice!

I'm so in love with my GE Profile Opal Nugget Ice Maker, I have been wanting a Ice Maker for some time now.
I became an avid ice eater when I was pregnant with my daughter that's almost 10 years old…I was given a cup of ice to help relieve the pain for labor but for almost 11 years now it became a soothing technique for me as well.
The modern sleek design of the GE Profile Opal Nugget Ice Maker goes perfectly with my stainless steel appliances, it has been an excellent addition to my kitchen appliances. When I had a small gathering it made hosting just a tad bit easier not asking anyone to bring a bag of ice.
My first impression of the GE Profile Opal Nugget Ice Maker was it is enormous but I put it right in the corner on my countertop and it was a perfect fit. The set up was very simply and quick and the quiet sound of operation was an addition plus. I image hearing the ice machine though out the day like I was staying in a hotel lobby but is was quiet the opposite.
I highly recommend the GE Profile Opal Nugget Ice Maker to make life a tad bit easier.

I am so incredibly impressed with the GE profile opal nugget icemaker. It's beautiful design fits perfectly with my kitchen decor. The little nuggets of ice are absolutely perfect. The set up is easy and makes a ton of ice throughout the day. My children rush home from school to fill their cups up with ice for fun. I am so glad we have this beautiful GE profile opal nugget icemaker. My next-door neighbor is having issues with her freezer making ice so she's been coming over to take some of mine. As a "good ice" lover, my GE Profile Opal Nugget Ice Maker is the kitchen appliance I never knew I needed. This ice maker is seriously amazing. It's ready to go almost righth out of the box. I plugged it in, ran it through the wash cycle a couple times, and it was ready to make the ice. The water compartment has a clearly marked fill line, and it's big enough that it's easy to fill. After about twenty minutes, it begins to make ice. The ice it makes are those nice, kind of chewy, nuggets. They taste great, just like I expected them to. This ice maker includes a handy scooper for the ice, and a drip tray, to catch the inevitable spills. The Profile Opal is stainless steel, matching my other kitchen appliances, and it looks great on my counter. If I change my mind about where to put it on my counter, it is easy to move. My only advice is to make sure the ice container is pushed completely in. Even if it appears to be in, double check it or the existing ice will melt. My daughters love that they can have these delicious ice pellets in their water bottles for school, so this ice maker is loved by our entire family, and it's used all day long.

Wow!!! The GE Profile Opal Nugget Ice Maker is hands down the best portable ice maker I've ever had the pleasure of using. We take it with us in our motorhome and it works so quickly and efficiently that now we couldn't imagine RV life and real life without it. It's so simple to use that my 10 & 9 year old kids can use it no problem. It also has a very sleek and modern look to it so it doesn't look bad sitting on the counter. As matter of fact it looks amazing sitting on the counter and I have gotten a ton of compliments about it. It doesn't just look fantastic, it works fantastic too!! Once I put the water in we will have ice in about 25 minutes if not sooner and within an hour it's almost completely full. It keeps recirculating the water as the ice melts so it's always keeping the ice tray full. The whole machine is just amazing. One button operation. It's just that simple. I plugged it up, filled with water, turned it on and within an hour we had ice. Not just any ice either.... that good Nugget ice!!!

We use a lot of ice in our house but unfortunately our refrigerator didn't come with an ice maker. This machine is exactly what we needed! It is very easy to use and when you get ice out it immediately starts making more so you always have plenty. All you need to do is pour water in the machine when it needs it and you're good to go! I'm very impressed and satisfied with this machine and I highly recommend it!

I had the opportunity to utilize my GE Profile Opal Nugget Ice Maker on multiple occasions now. As someone with no refrigerator ice maker, I am always having to manually freeze ice in trays. Because my family enjoys hosting parties and utilizing ice at the beach, I was elated to find a product that would save us both money and time. The GE Profile Opal Nugget Ice Maker is quite heavy, although sturdy feeling. The machine is large, but theoretically does fit on the counter for extended use when not in use. Setup was really straightforward, as the quick guide tells you how to clean the interior prior to first use. Ice production operation is simple, as you plug in, fill the basin to the max fill line, replace the ice resevoir and hit the function button located on the units front. I found the unit to be fairly quiet for its function. Initially the unit will produce falling water while getting ready to product ice. After about 15 minutes, slushy ice does begin to fall, becoming more frozen and solid by about 22 minutes. I was mostly underwhelmed when it came to the quantity of ice produced within the hour. Although the ice resevoir holds 3 pounds of ice, I was surprised to see that the bottom was just barely filled after an hour of operation. Perhaps my standards were high, however, I just envisioned the bucket to have abundant ice after about 1.5 hours. If having a party or needing ice for the cooler, one would be waiting a very long time for ice, unless they prestored ice prior to the event. The ice nuggets are a terrific size and shape for beverage cups and recipes. I do like how the defrost feature is automatic to protect the inner workings of the machine. The backlight feature does a nice job of lighting the ice and the drip tray does prevent water on my counterspace.
Because the GE Opal is so large and cumbersome, I don't know how often I would want to utilize it for ice prep on a regular basis unless I were to make a single large batch for storage. Great concept, does produce ice, just slow.

I love the texture of the opal ice nuggets the ice maker produced it's so crunchy! It takes less than 20 minutes to make a batch of ice and enough for our family to use for drinks. It's heavy but it doesn't occupy too much countertop space due to the vertical compact design. It doesn't come with the optional water tank but I don't see it's necessary either.

So I wanted this due to my wife and I love nugget ice usually to snack on and how it is for drinks. Now that we have it we can't stop using it! Easy to setup and get going following the instructions. Also, doing the routine maintenance keeps the ice fresh tasting. When the box says that it will make ice within minutes it truly means it. I had enough to fill a cup within the time stated. If the ice melts when not being used it gets recycled and refrozen which is why the maintenance is a must! Everything is so simple to use and keeps providing wonderful nugget ice!

This ice maker is awesome. Period. We have it sitting on our wet bar and use it for everything from movie night and our own home-made soft ice drinks to just enjoying it to crunch on. Setup was simple just like running the maintenance on it is. It has an elegant look to it and complements our wine fridge perfectly. The amount of ice it makes is ridiculous so it is excellent for when we entertain guests or just having some quick ice to through in a little cooler to take somewhere with us.

My wife has been on me to hook up the ice maker in our freezer since we got it, 4 years ago. Life gets busy and it was something that just kept getting left undone. When this ice maker cam, I set it up immediately. It was very easy, didn't require much installation, it is a heavy, solid unit. The design is great, but be prepared to sacrifice some counter space. It makes tiny nugget cubes, think Sonic ice. It really doesn't take a lot of time to get it going, within 20 minutes I had ice! My wife is happy, I'm happy. Win-Win!

How many of us have run into a situation where you have people over and you run out of ice in your fridge or when you need some in your drink and your kids have finished it all, well that will not be a problem with the GE Opal Nugget Ice Maker. Opal is the affordable ice maker for your home that will make and provide ice for you for years to come in fast and efficient way. Let's go over the setup process, features and the good and the bad of the Opal Nugget Ice maker.
Setup:
The Opal Ice maker comes pretty much ready to go right out of the box. I should mention that I was actually very impressed on how well the ice maker was packaged and shipped. There were pieces of plywood on the top and bottom of the machine and foam insulation all around to keep the product safe. In the box you will find the quick start manual, the regular manual, the ice maker with the collection bin and scoop and the tray. The Ice maker measure in at about 16.5 inches in Height, 10.5 inches in width, and 17.5 inches in depth. The unit weighs in at about 35lb and comes in a beautiful stainless-steel finish that will compliment any kitchen. The setup process of the opal ice maker is simple. You simply plug the unit in and fill the reservoir with water and your unit is ready to make some ice, but before you do that is recommended that you clean the unit and to do so, you simply wash the ice collection bin and scoop with soap and water. Next, you will need to fill the unit's reservoir with water, flip the switch in the back to clean mode and press the single button on the unit to start the cleaning process. The ice maker will run the water through the system for a few minutes and will stop, at this point using the drain hose in the back of you the unit you will empty the unit out and repeat the process at least three time to make sure you get anything and everything out of the ice maker. At this point your ice maker is ready to go and some soft crunchy ice.
